Barnaby came off the ventilator today and is on CPAP via a nasal mask that straps to his head and makes him look like an elephant seal. ğŸ¦
The thought of being intubated while fully conscious is a terrible one, it’s something an adult would never tolerate. Still, it’s hard to say if he looks more comfortable in his big ridiculous headgear, but it’s a great step in his lung development. He is also freer to move about turning his head from side to side which wasn’t possible while intubated. He is certainly better off whether he knows it yet or not.
The other amazing thing is that he can use his vocal cords with the tube gone. Hearing him cry was such a huge milestone for us that we all cried with him.
