As of yesterday, Barnaby is on a CPAP pressure of 5 cm h2O. This pressure is achieved by literally dipping the outflow tube from his mask five centimeters deep in a cup of water where it bubbles away, keeping a constant air pressure flowing to his lungs that is the equivalent weight of that much water. 5 is the lowest pressure that they consider effective, his next step is no CPAP at all.
They can also add supplemental oxygen to the flow if he needs help with oxygen saturation, but Barnaby has been on 21% for a while now which is “room air” with no additional oxygen.
The doctors are trying to balance challenging him to grow strong vs. giving him the support he needs. Now they will decide when to take him off of respiratory support altogether – that could be in a few days or a few weeks.
He is a little over half way to full term gestational age. He wieghs 4lbs 10 oz.

Wow, Ross, he’s growing so fast now. And how exciting about the CPAP numbers. Love the pic of Ana reading to him. So sweet.
