This is a photo of the morning rounds showing the attending doctor, the resident doctor, a fellow, a pharmacist, a nutritionist, and two nurses having one of their twice daily check ins about Barnaby. It’s a big team and they are doing their absolute best.

Monday Day 15
After a testing holiday over the weekend Barnaby’s head ultrasound today showed more dilation of his ventricles. It isn’t a huge amount but it shows a trend in the wrong direction. Dr. Warf visited Barnaby today from children’s hospital. He is one of the top pediatric neurosurgeons in the world and literally invented one ofContinue reading “Monday Day 15”

Friday, Day 12
We just listened in to his morning rounds when the big team of doctors and nurses and pharmacists and nutritionists all gather outside his door each day and read aloud to each other from their rolling computer workstations. Stability, Day 10
Two nice visits to the NICU today. On the second one Ana got to hold Barnaby against her chest for an hour. His brain ultrasound today showed his ventricle pressure as stable. NEC, Day 9

Most of his concerns at this point are within the realm of normal for a baby born at 29Continue reading “NEC, Day 9”
Day 7
We had a very good meeting with neurology this morning. The second MRI confirmed the findings of the first one that there are no major signs of damage. His brain bleed is persistent for the time being but is in the ventricles which are the best place for it to be and allows them toContinue reading “Day 7”
Day 5
Last night was our first real experience of feeling the roller coaster of highs and lows that people talk about with preterm babies. After settling in at Deborahs house and being so relieved to have left the hospital with a little good news we trucked back over to the NICU for Barnaby’s 8pm care timeContinue reading “Day 5”
Day 4
Ana goes home today to Deborah’s house. We are very excited to get her some fresh air and to be with family. We just were with Barnaby for the morning rounds when a huge team of doctors goes room to room and status updates the oncoming shift so that the tired ones can go home.Continue reading “Day 4”
